Khaleda’s indictment hearing Feb 26

A Dhaka court on Sunday set May 6 to hold hearing on charge framing in Niko graft case filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and others.

Judge in-charge Nazrul Islam of Dhaka 9th special judge court passed the order at the newly built makeshift courtroom in front of Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka.

Sunday was fixed for holding hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case, but prime accused Khaleda Zia failed to appear before the court on health ground and her lawyers submitted time peititon for her.

Accepting, the time plea, the court then adjourned the hearing till May 6 in the long-pending corruption case.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against five, including Khaleda Zia, with Tejgaon police station on December 9 in 2007 on charges of abusing power in signing a deal with Canadian company Niko for exploring and extracting gas.

ACC on May 5, 2008, submitted a charge-sheet against 11, including Khaleda Zia in the graft case filed on charges of incurring a loss of more than Tk 13 thousand crore of state exchequer by the deal with the Canadian company Niko.
