A launch capsized in the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj district leaving one dead till filing of this report at 9:20 pm on Sunday.
River police and BIWTA sources said the launch ‘MV Sabit Al Hasan’ sank with about 50 passengers on board.But some passengers, who survived the capsize, said the vessel might have about 150 passengers.
Relatives of a number of passengers said that their relatives were remained missing.
Mina Mahmuda, superintendent of police at Narayanganj River Police, told the Daily Sun that the launch left Narayanganj
launch terminal at about 5:56pm for going to Munshiganj.
The ‘MV Sabit Al Hasan’ sank after being hit with a lighter vessel named ‘SK-3’ at Kailaghat at about 6:10pm during the northwester on Sunday.
Officer-in-Charge of Bandar Police Station Dipok Chandra Shaha told the Daily Sun that about 50 passengers could to swim ashore.“But it could not be known exactly how many passengers were in it,” he said.
