Quader urges well-off society

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged the well-off section of society of the country to stand by the distressed people during the difficult time of coronavirus pandemic.

“It is my fervent call to all the well-off section of society to stand by the distressed people during the difficult time of coronavirus pandemic,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, made the call  while virtually attending at a milad mahfil organised for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s former personal officer Md Shahjahan at the party headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Friday from his official residence on the parliament premises. Obaidul Quader also said there was no need of opportunists in the party.

“No opportunists will standby the party in difficult times but dedicated workers like Shahjahan will accompany the party,” he said. The AL general secretary also directed the party leaders and activists to wear masks and maintain health guidelines as the number of coronavirus infected patients are increasing day by day.

Besides, Quader also urged the party leaders and activists to carry indoor party activities on a limited scale.

Earlier, the minister attended at a milad mahfil organised for Hossain Toufique Imam, former political adviser to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Mentionable, Bangladesh on Friday recorded over 6,000 new coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day as the country ramps up efforts to contain the virus’ transmission.

It was the fourth time in five days that the country reported its highest daily coronavirus cases when the health authorities confirmed 6,830 new infections in the afternoon.

The infection rate rose to 23.28 percent from 22.94 of Thursday’s when the country recorded 6,469 cases, the highest in months.
