National Press Club President Farida Yasmin on Friday urged that journalist community should be united so miscreants and fundamentalists cannot take advantage of the prevailing division among journalists.

“Miscreants and fundamentalists take advantage of disunity among journalists, so the journalist community in the country should be united,” she said.

Farida Yasmin made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting at Brahmanbaria Press Club on Friday. She also condemned the recent attack on journalists in Brahmanbaria.

The press club president also said Hefazat-e-Islam activists and supporters carried out massive violence in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to 28. They vandalised and set fire to several public and private installations.

President of Brahmanbaria Press Club Riaz Uddin Jami, who was attacked by Hefazat activists and supporters, gave details of the situation at that time.

Jabed Rahim Bijan, general secretary of the press club, at the meeting also described the attack on journalist leaders.

During her visit to the spot in Brahmanbaria, Farida Yasmin reassured the journalists saying, “We are with entire journalist community across the country.”

Farida Yasmin was accompanied by National Press Club General Secretary Ilias Khan and some other members at that time.
