Hefazat attempted to mar golden jubilee of independence: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed on Wednesday said Hefazat-e-Islam intended to spoil the golden jubilee of the country’s independence.

They resorted to violence all over the country, including Chattogram and Brahmanbaria, on March 26, he said.

The IGP was talking to reporters after visiting the police personnel, who were seriously injured during the Hefazat attacks in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria, at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

The police personnel who were undergoing treatment at CMH are Md Nurul Alam, inspector of police camp under Sadar Model Police Station of Brahmanbaria District, and Md Mehedi Hasan, SI of Hathazari Police Station. On the other hand, injured ASP Hussain Muhammad Farabi was undergoing treatment at Chattogram CMH.
