River Web Hotel turns into sex, drug dens in city

A racket entraps young girls in various ways and forces them to have sex with its contracted local and foreign clients at a residential hotel in Uttara of the capital.

Illegal drugs are sold and gambling is also run in the hotel named ‘River Web Hotel and Restaurant’ owned by Majed Khan.

A team of Rapid Action Battalion-4 raided the hotel at Uttara-10 early on Monday and arrested 22 staff members, gamblers and clients, RAB-4 second-in-command Major Md Kamrul told the Daily Sun on Wednesday.

The arrestees are Nasir Uddin alias Sumon,48,  Ruhul Amin, 42, Abu Hanif, 50,  Abul Hasem, 55, Selim Reza, 48, Abu Sayeed, 40, Faisal Ahmed alias Sumon Talukder, 42, Lutfar Rahman, 42, Mohamamd Jahid, 34, Lalil Saikat Joni, 30, Babu Mia, 32, Mohammad Akhter, 49, Jakir Hossain, 46, Milon Howlader, 23, Majedur Rahman, 32, Mahmududl Hasan, 48, Sattar, 30, Sayem Khan, 40, Mobarrak, 45, Riaz Chowdhury, 35, Shah Alam, 40, and Mohamamd Alamgir, 55.

Two gambling boards, two bottles of alcohol, Tk 26,837 in cash and some other valuable things were seized from the hotel.Wishing not to be named, an RAB senior officer told the Daily Sun that they are trying to arrest Majed Khan and some of his relatives who run illegal activities in the hotel.

The officer described that the hotel is an eight-storey building.  The ground floor is used as office while a restaurant is operated on the first floor. The rest of the storeys were used for sex and drug trade and illegal gambling.

“Majed is the owner of the building and the hotel. He has been running the illegal activities for the last one and a half years,” the officer said.

According to the officer, Majed maintains a racket of which members collect beautiful girls in various ways, including developing love affairs and promising for jobs, and tactfully bring them to the hotel. They forcibly sex with the girls and film the scenes.

“After that, the victims are forced to do immoral acts with local and foreign clients. By doing so, the gang has earned a huge amount of money,”       

the RAB officer said.

“Illegal alcohol is sold in the hotel. Gambling of lakhs of taka is played every night, the officer went on.

A cousin of Majed deals with illegal drugs in the hotel, the officer added.

A case has been filed against Majed and some others with Uttara West Police Station, said Major Kamrul.

He added that they were trying to arrest Majed and others involved in the illegal and immoral activities.

When contacted, Kazi Abul Kalam, inspector (investigation) of Uttara West Police Station, told the Daily Sun that two months ago, they conducted a raid on the same hotel and arrested a number of gamblers.
