A total of 2,495 more Rohingyas voluntarily left Cox’s Bazar camps for Bhasan Char in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali district on Tuesday as part of the government’s move to relocate the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to the island in the sixth phase.

Forty-seven buses carrying them left the temporary transit point set up at the field of Ukhiya Degree College for Chattogram, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.

The Rohingyas were brought to the temporary transit point from different refugee camps of Teknaf and Ukhiya upazilas on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shamsud Douza Nayan said the Rohingyas, who were willing to go to Bhasan Char, left for Chattogram in the 6th batch.

These Rohingyas will sail from Patenga to Bhasan Char on Wednesday under the supervision of Bangladesh Navy, he added.

Earlier, over 14,000 Myanmar nationals were shifted to Bhasan Char from different Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar in five phases.
