65,368 more vaccinated

The number of Covid-19 vaccine recipients is increasing day by day across the country including in Dhaka as over 65 thousand more people received the vaccine on Saturday.

According to a data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 65,368 more people received their first doses of the vaccine across the country.

Of the total, 35,342 were males and 30,026 females, it said adding only two people reported side effects.

With this, a total of 52,04,824 people have so far have received the first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine. Of them, 32,44,399 were male and 19,60,425 were female.  A total of 927 vaccine recipients have so far reported side effects, the DGHS said.

The first dose of vaccination against Cocid-19 across the country was launched on February 7.

Meanwhile, a total of 66,32,068 people have so registered online for the Covid-19 vaccine till 5:30pm of Saturday.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020 and the first death on March 18 the same year. The country launched a countrywide vaccination drive on February 7. As the daily infection rate keeps rising, the government extended the closure of school and colleges until May 23.
