Govt makes proper move to honour FFs: Speaker

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Saturday said the government has taken a proper initiative to honour all freedom fighters (FFs) across the country.

Terming the freedom fighters as the worthy sons of the soil, the speaker said the valiant freedom fighters spontaneously participated in the war of independence to liberate the country from Pakistani occupation forces without any personal interest. 

“So, the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken the proper initiative to honour the freedom fighters across the country,” she said.

Shirin Sharmin made the remarks while virtually speaking at a discussion and reception to the valiant freedom fighters at Pirganj upazila auditorium.

Paying rich tribute to all freedom fighters, the speaker said responding to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who dedicated almost twenty-four years of his life for the struggle of independence of the country, the freedom fighters had participated in the liberation war and made the country independent.

Pirganj Upazila Awami League President Azizur Rahman Ranga presided over the function while Pirganj Awami League General Secretary ASM Tajimul Islam Shamid, also the mayor of Pirganj municipality, moderated the programme.

Later,the speaker distributed crests among 68 valiant freedom fighters.
