Modi to bring 12 lakh doses of vaccine as gift

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will bring 12 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as gift during his visit to Bangladesh beginning today.

Talking to media, Prof Dr ABM Khurshid Alam, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), on Thursday said the Indian premier will bring the 12 lakh dose vaccines as gift for Bangladesh.

The DGHS sources said a special flight from India's Mumbai carrying the vaccines is expected to land in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on March 26.

The Indian government earlier gave 20 lakh Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine to Bangladesh as gift in January.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has signed a tripartite agreement with Serum Institute of Indian to purchase 3 crore of the coronavirus vaccine in phases.

As part of the agreement, Bangladesh received first consignment of 50 lakh doses of the AstrZeneca vaccine on January 25. Later, it also received 20 lakh vaccine in second consignment on February 23.
