Coronavirus situation is taking an alarming turn as the country saw 3,554 new cases in the last 24 hours which was the highest number of daily cases in the last 8 months.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 3,554 new cases were detected in the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday, raising the total number to 5,77,241.The DGHS said 18 more patients died of the deadly virus in the last 24 hours while the death rate has slightly fallen to 1.51 percent. With the fresh deaths, the total number of deaths has reached 8,738 in the country.
Tuesday’s count of 3,554 infection cases was the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases after July 2 last year. A total of 4,019 cases were detected in the country on July 2.
Some 1,835 more patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 5,25,994 in the country till the day. On the other hand, the recovery rate has declined to 91.12 percent, it added.
The health directorate said 12.94 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with coronavirus till the date while 13.69 percent samples have been diagnosed with the fatal disease in a day.
A total of 26,357 samples, out of 25,954 collected, were tested at 219 labs in the country during the period, the report added.
A total of 44,60,184 samples have been tested so far to detect coronavirus infection across the country.The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
