Police have launched a massive campaign again to create public awareness about health guidelines, including wearing of facemasks, as coronavirus infections are increasing again in the country.
On the police headquarters’ instruction, all divisional and district police organised various mass awareness programmes, including rallies and processions, highlighting the vulnerability of Covit-19 and maintaining health guidelines.In the beginning of its fast spread last year, police were also on the streets in ensuring social distancing and maintaining health guidelines.
They had to pay a price in this connection as many of their members contracted the virus and died.
In Dhaka, with a view to preventing the spread of coronavirus, different divisional zones, including Tejgaon and Ramna police under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), organised various awareness programmes, including mass campaign on Sunday morning.
Senior police officers took part in the awareness campaign. They also distributed facemasks among people.
During the awareness campaign, law enforcers were also seen urging people to follow health rules, including wearing facemasks, to fight the pandemic.
While campaigning, DMP Additional Commissioner Krishno Pado Roy told journalists that they were not forcing the people to abide by the heal guidelines, including wearing of facemasks.“We’re only creating awareness among people to abide by health guidelines, including wearing of facemasks,” the police officer added.
In Rajshahi, police started an awareness campaign across the division on Sunday in a bid to combat coronavirus. RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddique took part in a human chain at Shaheb Bazar where local people and businessmen also joined.
They distributed facemasks to people, asking them to ensure social distancing and to be careful about coronavirus.
The police commissioner with huge contingents of police walked into markets and city streets at Shaheb Bazar, Gourhanga and Shiroil and distributed masks and hand sanitizers among the poor people.
Rajshahi Deputy Inspector General Abdul Baten joined a campaign at Baneswar Bazar in Puthia upazila and also visited other districts of the division to raise awareness about Covid-19.
In Cumilla, police held a mass awareness programme on Sunday. Police in a good number took part in the programme.
The police carrying banners and festoons inscribed with various slogans in favour of maintaining health guidelines. They came out
of the police lines and marched different streets which ended in front of Kandirpar town hall at noon.
In Patuakhali, police distributed masks and leaflets among people on Patuakhali-Kuakata highway around 11:00am.
Masks and leaflets were distributed among people in Sadar Road area in front of Barguna Press Club led by Barguna Police Super Md Jahangir Mollik.
Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed announced on Thursday that they will launch a motivational programme on 21 March to curb the coronavirus in compliance with the health rules.
Simultaneously, the IGP gave instructions to run business and economic activities in accordance with health guidelines. Everyone must wear mask to fight coronavirus.
No one should go out without wearing mask. If necessary, police will distribute free masks, the police chief said.
