Police arrested four car lifters and recovered eight stolen private cars from Brahmanbaria and Habiganj districts recently.
The arrested are Nurul Huq, 24, Abdul Alim alias Emon, 33, Hridoy Pathan alias Uzzaal Pathan, 29, and A H Rubel, 37.Following a case filed with Kafrul Police Station on January 21, a team of Mirpur Detective Division arrested them and recovered the vehicles few days ago. DMP Media Division revealed this to the journalists on Sunday.
Ashraful Islam, assistant commissioner of the Mirpur Detective Division, told the Daily Sun that the arrestees were the members of an organised gang and the gang has divided into several small groups comprising two to three members. Each small group targets cars and steals using fake keys.
The members of the racket take the lifted cars to Narayanganj’s Araihazar or Purbachal or Kanchpur from where, other members, who are skilled drivers, take the cars to Brahmanbaria, Habiganj, Sunamganj and Moulvibazar. Later, they make fake documents against the cars and sale these, he said.
