Around 100,000 candidates remained absent from the 41st Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary test held on Friday amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC), a total of 404,513 candidates applied for the 41st BCS where 304,907 took part in the test.

As per the calculation, 99,606 candidates did not participate in the BCS exam where absence rate is 24.62 percent.

PSC Chairman Md Sohorab Hossain said about 21 percent of the candidates were absent in the 40th BCS examination. So the 24.62 percent absence rate is not unusual.

The 41st BCS preliminary examination was held on Friday at 359 centers in eight divisions of the country simultaneously from 10:00am to 12:00pm following health guidelines strictly amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over 4 lakh candidates applied for the exam after the 41st BCS circular was published in November 2019 to appoint 2,018 vacant posts in different cadres.
