9 killed in Faridpur road crashes

At least nine people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Madhukhali and Bhanga upazilas of Faridpur on Sunday.

In Madhukhali, seven people, including a woman and a child, were killed and 9 others injured when a truck hit a microbus on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Majhkandi area.

Mohammad Rasel, assistant sub-inspector of Kanaipur highway police outpost, said a Dhaka-bound microbus from Magura reached Majhkandi area of the upazila on Dhaka-Khulna Highway and was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction. The microbus was crushed totally.

“A woman and a man in the microbus died on the spot and 14 more passengers were injured. The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where five more died while undergoing treatment. Other injured people are undergoing treatment at the hospital,” he added.

The ASI further said that the names of the victims could not be ascertained. The truck was seized but its driver managed to flee. The deceased hailed from Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenaidah district. The condition of some of the patients in the hospital is critical.

In Bhanga, two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured as a private car rammed their bike at Biswaroad area in Bhanga upazila early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Shakil Khan, 22 and Rony Fakir, 20.

Critically injured Apu, 20, was rescued and sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital at night. His condition is critical, said the doctor on duty.

Police have seized the private car and arrested the driver of the private car, Zakir Ahmed, 25.
