Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) protested an ‘unholy’ attempt to slander the elite force by a person who was arrested, but now on bail, on charges of attacking law enforcers.

In a statement issued by RAB on Saturday, it said a man named ABM Ibrahim Khalil attacked on-duty members of the force and obstructed them from discharging duties in Khaje Dewan Lane under Chawkbazar Police Station in the capital on March 11.

The incident led RAB to arrest Ibrahim Khalil and turn him in to the police, said RAB adding that it also filed a case against the offender at Chawkbazar Model Police Station.

RAB claimed that Ibrahim Khalil is now spreading false information on social media to malign the elite force and cover up his crime.

According to the statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) ANM Emran Khan, Assistant Director of Media Wing at the RAB headquarters, some members of RAB-10’s CPC Lalbagh camp went to the Chawkbazar Khaje Dewan Lane area around 5:00 pm on March 11 to gather information about a notorious drug dealer.

“ABM Ibrahim Khalil and his accomplices wanted to know the identity of the RAB members. Though RAB members introduced themselves to him and disclosed identities, they came under attack from Ibrahim Khalil and his accomplices. “When RAB members were leaving Khaje Dewan Lane area, ABM Ibrahim Khalil and his cohorts shouted terming the elite force ‘fake RAB’. The culprits also indiscriminately punched the RAB members causing critical injuries.”

On hearing the scream of injured RAB members, people of the area rushed to the spot and rescued them, the statement added.

Later, RAB arrested Ibrahim Khalil and filed the case.

But after getting bail, Ibrahim Khalil has posted video on social media claiming that he was arrested from Supreme Court premises in an attempt to distort the fact and sensitise the issue, RAB said.

In his video, the man also claimed that he was brutally tortured by RAB.
