Bangladeshi rifle shooters showcased disappointing performances on the opening day of the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup as apart from their women’s team’s qualification in the final, all got eliminated from the qualification round in New Delhi on Friday.
The country’s premier shooter Abdullah Hel Baki shot 624.5 to finish 19th among 42 shooters in the qualifiers of men’s 10m air rifle singles while Rabbi Hasan Munna shot 624.7 to finish 18th at Dr Karni Singh Range.In the qualification round of the women’s 10m air rifle singles, Sayeda Atkia Hasan Disha finished 39th among 52 shooters with 618.3. The other two Bangladeshi shooters -- Farbin Chowdhury Rithika and Sharmin Akter Ratna scored 617.4 and 608.8 to rank 42nd and 46th respectively.
The team scored a total of 1844.5 points to qualify for the finals as one of the top eight teams.
Federation Secretary-General Enthekhabul Hamid told The Daily Sun that they are now eyeing women’s teams, rifle mixed teams and pistol single and mixed events.
“We have been eliminated from both men’s and women’s rifle single events and men’s team event but we still have chances in women’s rifle team event, rifle mixed team event and pistol events,” he said.
