14 held with stolen mobile phone sets

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested 14 members of an organised gang of thieves with 183 stolen mobile phone sets from Osmani Uddyan area in the capital on Wednesday.

The arrestees are Monir Hossain, 46, Sohel Mia, 35, Hazrat Ali, 34, Mohammad Sabuj, 35, Jahangir Hossain, 42, Mafizullah, 36, Emon Mia, 19, Anwar Hossain, 28, Wasim Hossain, 27, Rubel Hossain, 21, Tofazzel Hossain, 55, Mohammad Amin, 38, Atiqul Islam, 35, and Tarikul Islam Babu, 27.

Additional DIG (Dhaka Metro) of the CID Sheikh Omar Faruque briefed this to journalists at the CID headquarters in the capital on Thursday.

He said that the accused used to steal and snatch mobile phone sets from commuters in Gulistan, Fulbaria, Golap Shah, Mugda Bus Stand and other areas.

They changed IME I numbers of the phones and sold at lower prices to customers, he said.

The officer said a case was filed against the arrestees with Shahbagh Police Station on Thursday.
