Sixteen more died and 2,187 new cases were detected in the country during the last 24 hours till Thursday morning.
The country witnessed a jump in daily Covid-19 infection rate as some 10.45 percent of tests conducted during the time were tested positive.The health authorities on Thursday recorded the highest daily infection rate in three months.
The daily infection rate was 7.68 percent and 8.29 percent on Wednesday and Tuesday in the country respectively, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Meanwhile, DGHS recorded the highest number of infection cases during the last three months.
The DGHS also reported 16 more death from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 8,624 in the country. Of the 16 deceased, 12 were men and four were women.
So far, 6,521 men (75.61%) and 2,103 women (24.39%) have died from Covid-19 across the country. The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.53 percent.
DGHS said 21,212 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours. As many as 20,925 samples were tested in the 219 authorized labs across the country. A total of 4,349,194 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 12.99 percent so far.It also said 1,534 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours while a total of 517,523 patients -- 91.61% of all infected -- have made full recovery across the country.
The first case of Covid-19 was detected on March 8 last year while the first death was recorded on March 18 the same year in the country.
