Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday sought all-out cooperation from the countrymen to make the birth centenary of Bangabandhu and golden jubilee celebration a success.

“I seek all-out cooperation from the countrymen to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and golden jubilee of independence,” he said while addressing a virtual briefing from his official residence on the parliament premises in the capital.

Obaidul Quader came up with the request as the nation is set to celebrate two biggest occasions of the country with the presence of five heads of the states and government through ten-day long special programmes starting from March 17.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, sought the cooperation from the common people to ensure smooth arrival and complete all formalities for the foreign dignitaries.

“In this regard, all has to follow law Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s instructions to keep trouble-free the movement of city dwellers,” he said.

About BNP, the senior ruling party leader said the party is still misguiding the youths over history of Liberation War while the country is celebrating golden jubilee of its independence.

“BNP initiated the distortion of history after the assassination of Bangabandhu and it is still continued by them,” he said.

Criticising BNP leader’s statement over VAT and tax, Quader said the rate of revenue collection remains at logical level, why collection of VAT and tax now tests bitter to them.

Regarding growing surge in coronavirus infection, the minister advised the countrymen to maintain health guidelines strictly.
