The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) signed a Record of Discussion deal with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to formulate the Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan (IEPMP) for Bangladesh.

Joint secretary of Economic Relations Division (ERD) Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Joint Secretary of Power Division Dr Shah Md Helal Uddin attended at the signing ceremony.

The goal of the integrated master plan is to pave the way towards a low carbon energy system, considering the energy security and economic viability.

It will introduce policies, institutions and technologies towards low carbon society for the sustainable development of Bangladesh.  The integrated master plan will consist of various energy balance and energy supply mix scenarios and set long-term targets for the years 2050, 2041, and 2030.  The scenarios and targets will be formulated by reviewing existing policies and primary power/ energy demand forecasts.

Based on those analytical works, the project will propose a power/energy efficiency plan for residential, commercial, industrial, transport and agriculture sectors.

It will also support the government in preparing the long-term power development plan including generation and transmission system development, with analysis of costs and benefits of necessary facilities, infrastructure and institutions.
