A murder case has been filed against 164 people including Basurhat Municipality Mayor Quader Mirza, also younger brother of Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, over the murder of local Shramik league activist Alauddin.

Quader Mirza’s younger brother Sahadat Hossen and his son Mirza Mashrur Quader have also been accused in the case.

Emdad Hossain alias Raju, younger brother of Alauddin, who died on Tuesday during a clash between two factions of Awami League at Basurhat in Noakhali, filed the murder case with the court of Noakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate on Sunday.

Noakhali Senior Judicial Magistrate SM Mosleh Udin Mizan took the complaint into cognizance after a hearing.

While talking to the journalists on the court premises, the plaintiff’s counsel Harunur Rashid Howlader said that the court accepted the case and asked to present the National Identity Card of the plaintiff.

Alauddin, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession, went to Basurhat with two passengers on Tuesday night. After dropping off the passengers, Alauddin went to Basurhat Municipality area when the clash ensued. On February 19, journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir, 30, was shot in Companiganj upazila during a clash between the two groups. On the following day Muzakkir died at DMCH.

Soon after the incident, local administration imposed section 144 banning on any gathering in the Basurhat municipality area of Noakhali.

Law enforcers also went on action against the troublemakers and arrested at least 27 people including one faction chief Badal in connection with Tuesday's deadly clash in Noakhali. He is now in jail.

Companiganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Meer Zahedul Haque Rony, however, said the situation was brought under control.
