Tajul inaugurates various development projects in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Local Govern-ment, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Tazul Islam on Saturday spent a busy day by inaugurating and visiting different develop-ment projects in the City Corporation (RCC).

The LGRD Minister inaugurated 6.793-kilometer east-west four-lane connecting road that has been constructed recently at a cost of TK 189.34 crore.

A 202.5-meter flyover along with a 120-meter ramp has been constructed at Budhpara Railway crossing with an estimated cost of TK 29.28 crore for the first time in Rajshahi city, reports BSS.

He also visited the activities of a modern secondary transfer station near the main gate of Rajshahi University besides witnessing elevation works of a road to four lanes from Alupatty to Talaimary crossing.

The city corporation is going to have a new look to the Sonadighi, a traditional pond in Rajshahi city, as it has been implementing a gigantic scheme to this end as soon as possible. Just adjacent to the pond, a 16-storey high-rise building named ‘city centre’ has been constructed with joint venture of the RCC and Ena Properties through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) system.

During the visit, the minister talked to the newsmen saying Rajshahi City Corporation has been implementing various need-based projects which will give a new look to the metropolis in near future.

Rajshahi city has already become a clean and green city with different uplift projects, he added.LGRD Minister also enquired about the projects being implemented under the ministry’s local government division in Rajshahi division at Circuit House conference hall. He said all government organizations have to make a concerted effort to ensure coordination among all public utility organizations.

Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Advocate Adiba Anjum Mita, MP, Senior Secretary to the Local Government Helaluddin Ahmed, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir and others concerned were present at the meeting. The minister also placed wreaths on the grave of Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman, one of the four national leaders, in city’s Kadirganj area.
