Women Hockey return to field today

Country’s women’s hockey returns to the field after a 17-month break with the maiden edition of Walton Women Development Independence Cup 2021 today at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in the capital. 

Bangladesh National Women’s Hockey Team last played in the six-nation Women’s Juniors (U-21) AHF Cup Hockey Qualifiers held in Singapore in September 2019.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation dedicated the meet to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Mujib Barsho.

BHF President and Chief of the Air Staff Air Force Air Chief Marshal Masihuzzaman Serniabat will inaugurate the meet as the chief guest. 

A total of 13 teams, split into four groups, will take part in the tournament. The top team from each group will play semifinals on March 23 while the final will be held on March 24.

Group A: Jhenaidah, Joypurhat and Thakurgaon; Group B: Narail, Chattogram and Jessore; Group C: Rajshahi, Rangpur and Dinajpur; Group D: BKSP, Kishoreganj, Cox’s Bazar and Mymensingh.
