Three members of a family suffered burns in a gas line blast at Kashimpur in Gazipur on Saturday.

The injured are Sumon Miah, 32, his wife Mariam Begum, 28, and their son Shakil Mahmud, 5. They are undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Of them, Shakil is in critical condition, as he received burns to 60 percent of his body.

The incident occurred at Jakir Hossain’s house where Sumon Miah, a garment worker, was living with his family as tenant. The walls of their room and a door collapsed following the explosion.

On hearing a big bang, local people rushed to the spot and took the injured to the hospital, said Kashimpur Police Station’s officer-in-charge Mahbub-e-Khuda.

The kitchen was built on the septic tank of the house, he said, adding that the septic tank remained undamaged.
