Progress Rail, a US company, has delivered first eight locomotives, equipped with the latest technology, to Bangladesh Railway (BR).

“These new engines will be a generation ahead of what is in use today in terms of performance and durability,” said US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller while paying a call on Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan in the capital on Wednesday.

He congratulated Progress Rail for delivering the first eight of 40 locomotives to Bangladesh Railway on time and under budget.

Miller said these locomotives are an excellent example of the quality of US workmanship and the development gains for Bangladesh delivered by their strong economic partnership.

The Progress Rail signed a contract with Bangladesh Railyway in February, 2019 to supply 40 broad gauge locomotives, equipped with the latest locomotive technology. These will be the first broad gauge locomotives the company has supplied to Bangladesh.
