Miscreants looted valuables from three shops at Khilgaon in the capital early Wednesday after killing a night guard.

The deceased was identified as Kazi Salauddin, 60. Hailing from Boalia village in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj, he used to live with his family in New Commissioner Lane of Meradia in Khilgaon.

Jahangir Alam, sub-inspector of Khilgaon Police Station, said police recovered the body from a footpath near Khidmah Hospital (Pvt) Ltd around 7:30am and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Inspector (Investigation) of the police station Sujib Kumar Saha told the Daily Sun that a group of criminals looted cash and valuables from an imitation jewellery shop, a bKash agency and a battery shop near Khidmah Hospital. “We’re suspecting that they stabbed the night guard to death as he tried to prevent them from committing the crime.”

A case was filed in this connection and police were trying to arrest the killers, he said.

Victim’s son Saddam Hossain said his father joined the job of night guard 15 days ago. “He left our residence around 11pm on Tuesday. Around 9am on Wednesday, we came to know that our father was killed.”
