Stern action will be taken against culprits: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said that stern action will be taken against those who were involved in the violent incident in Noakhali.

“None would be spared for the incident in Noakhali and stern action would be taken against the culprits,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said this while addressing a virtual briefing from his official residence on the parliament premises in the capital.

The minister came up with the remarks as an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League was killed and 30 others injured on Tuesday during a factional clash between the supporters of Basurhat municipal mayor Abdul

Quader Mirza, also brother of Obaidul Quader, and Companiganj upazila unit AL Organising Secretary Mizanur Rahman Badal.

The minister also said those who are responsible for creating disarray in Companiganj would be brought to book irrespective of their party affiliation.

Expressing deep condolence at the death of journalist Borhan Uddin Muzakkir and BCL activist Alauddin, the AL spokesperson has termed the incident an unexpected and sorrowful.

“Law is equally applicable for, many people involved in the incident have already been arrested and the operation is going on,” he said, adding he already talked with the home minister, the IGP, the RAB DG and other authorities concerned.

Mentioning that none would be allowed to tarnish the image and achievement of the Sheikh Hasina-led government, Quader said Noakhali district Awami League has been asked to submit a report over the incident.

The minister also urged all to keep patient as the government has started taking stern action against the misdeed in Basurhat.
