GP, BL promise to ensure best services

Grameenphone Ltd (GP) and Banglalink have promised to ensure best possible services to subscribers after acquisition of spectrum. 

Grameenphone showed a firm commitment to giving customers the best possible experience by acquiring 10.4 MHz spectrum at the spectrum auction held by Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Monday.

 With this additional spectrum acquisition, GP holds a total of 47.4 MHz spectrum. 

Jens Becker, CFO and Acting CEO of Grameenphone, said, “The auction outcome is good for the country, good for the industry, and good for customers. With this additional spectrum, GP is well-positioned to further contribute to the digitalization of Bangladesh and meet peoples growing need for high-speed internet in rural as well as urban areas.” Jens added, “We have a shared responsibility with BTRC to ensure better customer experience for our customers’ and we are firmly committed to delivering on this shared goal.” 

With this additional spectrum, Grameenphone will continue enhancing its 4G Experience and Quality of Service further for its valued customers, it said.

“GP has also been working relentlessly to ensure widespread 4G coverage with the maximum number of 4G sites and aims to have all sites 4G at the Independence Day and 50 years nationhood celebrations of Bangladesh to unleashing the potential of digitalization and connecting millions of possibilities.” 

Besides, Banglalink, has acquired 4.4 MHz spectrum in 1800 MHz band and 5 MHz spectrum in 2100 MHz band following successful bids.

The newly acquired spectrum will help Banglalink increase its total spectrum holding from 30.6 MHz to 40 MHz, enabling it to retain the top position among all private operators in Bangladesh in terms of the amount of spectrum provided per subscriber, it said.

Banglalink will have to invest around Tk 10 billion to purchase the spectrum, which is one of the largest investments made by an operator in the country in recent times.

About acquiring the spectrum, Erik Aas, Chief Executive Officer, Banglalink said, “Banglalink’s acquisition of this additional spectrum is yet another landmark in our endeavor to serve our customers as a digital service provider. The spectrum we are acquiring will also help us capitalise on this success and increase customer satisfaction further.”

Banglalink also purchased a total of 10.6 MHz spectrum at an auction held in 2018, which was the highest amount of spectrum sold to a participating operator that time.
