A Bangladesh Olympic Association official on Tuesday said that they may reduce the budget for the upcoming Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games.
“Last year, we gave the government a budget of Tk 38.50 crore for Games. The plan was to get Tk 18-20 crore from CSR (corporate social responsibility) and others from sponsors while the government will provide the rest of the amount,” Director General Brig Gen (retd) Fakhruddin Haider told The Daily Sun.“But the situation has changed after the COVID-19 and we won’t be able to get Tk 18-20 crore from CSR or sponsors at this time. Also, we have reduced the number of participating athletes. So, we have to reduce the amount of budget,” said Fakhruddin.
BOA on Tuesday received a cheque of Tk 50 lakh from Shahjalal Islami Bank Limited for arranging the Games as their treasurer Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol received the amount at BOA house.
