CHATTOGRAM: A Chattogram court on Tuesday sent a leader of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal Chattogram city unit to jail in a case filed for accumulating wealth worth around Tk 1.35 crore from unknown sources.
Chattogram Metropolitan Session and Special Tribunal Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman ordered to send the accused Gulzar Begum to jail after she surrendered before it on Tuesday, said the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor (PP) Mahmudul Hoque.Golzar Begum, wife of sub-inspector Nawab Ali of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Dhaka, is the organising secretary of the Mohila Dal Chattogram city unit.
Other accused are Nawab, additional assistant commissioner (retd) Bahar Uddin of Tax Zone-1 and Tax Inspector Dipankar Ghosh of Chattogram.
ACC deputy director Ali Akber filed the case on October 9 in 2016. The plaintiff in the case alleged that Gulzar in her wealth statement mentioned that she earned around Tk 1.1 crore from fish farming. But, in investigation, the ACC didn’t find the existence of any fish farm.
They found that Golzar and her husband Nawab have flat, plot and house in Chattogram and Gopalganj district, ACC sources said. The ACC pressed charge sheet accusing the four after investigation. The concerned court accepted the charge sheet and issued arrest warrant against the accused on February 22, said PP Mahmudul.
