The BGMEA election candidates have geared up their campaigns to win the hearts of voters as the election nears.
Due on April 4, the election is going to witness competition between two major panels- Sammilita Parishad and Forum, who have already finalized and introduced the names of their candidates.Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) holds election every two years.
This year, each panel already confirmed the list of their 35 members as Thursday was the last date of withdrawal of nominations.
BGMEA former vice-president ABM Shamsuddin, also chairman of Hannan Group, is leading the Forum in the election while Giant Group managing director and former vice-president of the apparel body Faruque Hassan has taken the helm of the Sammilita Parishad.
Both the panels have picked up 26 candidates from Dhaka region and 9 candidates from Chattogram region.
According to the schedules, the voting will be held at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden hotel and the BGMEA office in Chattogram from 10am to 5pm on April 4.
The final lists have 1,853 voters from Dhaka and 461 from Chattogram.Talking to the candidates, it was found they are reaching to their voters through physical campaigns as well as using digital platforms.
Forum leader ABM Shamsuddin said they are running their campaign focusing on the future negotiation for the industry.
The main agenda of the Forum is to serve the industry, which is being focused in the campaigns, he added.
Sammilita Parishad candidate Mohiuddin Rubel said they have formed their panels “with a blend of young and experienced candidates to serve the country’s key export earning sector.”
He also said they are running campaign through various platforms to attract voters.
