Shomi Kaiser acquitted in defamation case

A Dhaka court has acquitted popular actress Shomi Kaiser in a defamation case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder issued an order relieving Shomi of the charges on Friday after receiving the final report by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The PBI filed the final report in the defamation case for calling journalists ‘thieves’ on Wednesday for not having witness.

PBI inspector Lutfar Rahman submitted the report to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder. ‘No witnesses were found while investigating the case’, said Lutfar Rahman in the report.

The case was filed for ‘defaming’ journalists by searching them after Shomi Kaiser lost her two smartphones at a programme at the National Press Club on April 24, 2019.
