Prisoner Missing from Ctg Jail

Jailer, dy jailer withdrawn, 2 suspended

CHATTOGRAM: The jail authorities withdrew the jailer and deputy jailer of Chattogram Central Jail and suspended two other officials temporary on Sunday as a prisoner went missing from the jail.

The authorities also filed a departmental case accusing another official and formed a three-member probe committee to investigate into the matter.

Of the withdrawn officials, Jailer Rafiqul Islam was attached to the department of Prisons while the Deputy Jailer Abu Sadat to the office of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons in Chattogram, said the Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Md Mominur Rahman Mamun.

Besides, Prison guard Nazim Uddin and assistant prison guard Yunus Mia were suspended and assistant chief prison guard Kamal Haider was sued in a departmental case.

The probe committee led by the DIG Prisons (Khulna division) Md Sagir Mia was asked to submit the report within seven days.

On the other hand, the district administration also formed a three-member probe committee headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sumoni Akter to investigate into the matter.

Moreover, Senior Secretary Md Shahiduzzaman of Security Services Division under the Home Ministry visited Chattogram Central Jail on Sunday afternoon in this connection.

Mentionable, an accused of a murder case went missing from the Chattogram Central Jail on Saturday.

The jail authority lodged a general diary and filed a case with the concerned Kotwali police station in this connection.
