University Grants Commission on Saturday claimed that it conducted a completely fair and impartial investigation into the allegations of corruption in development project of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR).

The UGC made the claim in a press release. It also denied the allegations made by BRUR Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah.

The UGC also termed the VC’s comments on education minister and the probe committee as unexpected and undesirable ones.

The comments of the BRUR VC on education minister and probe committee, that investigated allegations of irregularities against him, are unexpected, it said.

The press release also said as it is an independent institution, there is no scope of exercising influence on the activities of the UGC by the minister or the ministry.

The UGC-formed committee investigated the allegations independently. So, the allegations made by Prof Kalimullah are entirely baseless, it said.

The commission at a meeting with the project managers of different universities in presence of the education minister on December 12, 2019 claimed that various consistencies were noticed in the development project of the university.

Following the inconsistencies, a UGC probe committee submitted its report to the education ministry on February 24.
