Rail communications of Kushtia with Rajshahi, Gopalganj, Faridpur and Rajbari remained suspended due to derailment of five bogies of a goods-laden train after a head-on collision with an engine trolley at Milpara area adjacent to Kushtia Station on Friday.

The Faridpur-bound wheat-laden train collided head-on with a halted engine trolley at Milpara near Kushtia Station around 1:30pm.

Driver of the freight Mostafizur Rahman said he saw the halted engine trolley after starting his journey towards Kumarkhali.

“I tried to stop the train after seeing the trolley from a distance of 50 yards, but I failed to halt the train on time,” he said.

Five out of 22 bogies of the freight train were derailed, snapping train movement between Kushtia and all four districts.

No casualties were reported in the accident.
