BAF medical team reaches Maldives

A medical team of Bangladesh Air Force reached the Maldives on Wednesday to support the Government of the Maldives in its efforts to contain the rapid spread of Covid-19 through the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” nationwide vaccination programme launched by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Equitable access to the Covid-19 vaccine by everyone including citizens and expatriates alike is a key policy of the government, according to a press statement of Maldives Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Minister of Maldives during his recent visit to Dhaka announced that the Bangladeshi expatriates working in the country will also get vaccination. There are around one lakh Bangladeshi workers now in Maldives.

Under the purview of the Ministry of Health, the medical team consisting of ten nurses and seven medical assistants and an anesthesiologist, will be supporting the vaccination program in Male’ as well as at health centres and regional hospitals in outer atolls.

The team is expected to stay in Maldives for two months.
