Jatiya Press Club (JPC) authority has termed the incident of February 28 on its premises as unwanted and regretful one.

“It is not acceptable to throw brick-bates taking position on club premises, vandalise gate and lock as chanting any slogan at Jatiya Press Club premises is restricted as per condition of arranging any programme at the club,” said a JPC press release signed by its general secretary Ilias Khan on Wednesday.

In an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, the JPC authority also expressed grave concern about security of a national institution like JPC over the incident. JPC President Farida Yasmin presided over the meeting.

A committee has also been formed in the meeting to investigate the incident occurred on February 28 when a group of rowdy Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists locked into a clash with the law enforcers at club premises.

“Next initiatives will be taken as per recommendation of the committee to avoid recurrence of such incident,” the press release added.

The news release also mentioned that the club authority, however, has no intention to prohibit or control any political programmes.

“But, we expect responsible role from all the concerned parties,” it added.
