BNP’s golden jubilee celebration a mockery: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday termed the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s celebration of golden jubilee of independence is nothing but a mockery with the spirit of War of Liberation by maintaining relation with the anti-liberation elements.

“People have hoped that the party would have cut their tie with the anti-liberation elements but it is still maintaining relation with the nexus,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks while addressing an orientation ceremony of Relief and Social Welfare sub-committee of the AL at its party headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.      

The AL spokesperson joined the programme virtually from his official residence on parliament premises in the capital.

Obaidul Quader alleged that the country’s ongoing development is being hindered by the BNP’s negative and evil politics.

“Country’s ongoing development is being hindered by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s negative and evil politics. Not only that, the flourishing democracy under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also being harmed,” he said.

Quader also alleged the BNP is violating human rights and destroying democracy under the guise of mask since its inception.

The minister warned for removing sub-committee members by if anyone found involved in misusing power.

Earlier, sub-committee members paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi Road 32 in the capital.

AL presidium member Matia Chowdhury, relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, agriculture and co-operative Faridunnahar Laily, health secretary Rokeya Sultana, among others, also spoke at the function.
