The Posts and Telecommunications Division has formed a probe committee to look into the irregularities in recruitment and promotion at Bangladesh Tele-communication Reg-ulatory Commission (BTRC).

“A two-member probe committee has been constituted to look into the issue,” Additional Secretary (Telecom) to the division Md Kamruzzaman told the Daily Sun on Wednesday.

The matter came to the fore after the Daily Sun ran a report titled “Recruitment, Promotion: Massive irregularities found at BTRC” on January 25. The division formed the panel on Monday to probe the irregularities in recruitment and promotion at the independent regulatory body, sources said.

Deputy Secretary (Telecom) to Posts and Telecommunications Division Masuma Nasrin told the Daily Sun that the probe committee was asked to submit its report within 10 days.

BTRC appointed over 100 staffers, including a commissioner, and promoted at least a dozen officials to different posts from 2009 to 2018, violating rules and regulations.

It recruited manpower having lack of required educational qualifications and exceeding age limit, violating the conditions of circulars.

Even, retired government employees were appointed although there is no provision of hiring former public servants.
