The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has started its 19-day programmes to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country’s independence.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, through videoconference, inaugurated the programmes at a city hotel on Monday.The party’s standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, also the convener of the national committee on celebrating the golden jubilee of independence, chaired the programme while the party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present as the chief guest.
BNP standing committee members- Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, vice-chairmen- Hafijuddin Ahmed and Shajahan Omor, Bangladesh Kalyan Party chairman Syed Muhammad Ibrahim and Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) chairman Mostafa Jamal Haider also spoke at the function.
The party’s chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam, also member secretary of the national committee on celebrating the golden jubilee of independence, anchored the programme.
Addressing the programme, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the independence of the country is not of any specific party or any individual but it is of people of all walks of life of the country.
“Come, lets we take oath to implement the dream of 1971, in the 50 years of independence of the country, that will bring us ahead to build a liberal democratic, prosperous Bangladesh and bring is to light from the dark,” he said.
Besides, he also criticised the move to cancel the party founder Ziaur Rahman’s state title ‘Bir Uttam’.“The incumbent unelected government is hatching this conspiracy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, at a press conference held recently, announced a 19-day programme, including a grand rally, for the month of March to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country’s independence.
