Govt to fix health service fees of private hospitals soon: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said the government will fix health service fees of private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centers to reduce the sufferings of the healthcare seekers.

“The government has taken initiative to fix the fees of healthcare services of the private hospitals of the country considering standard of the hospitals. Effective step will be taken in this regard within short time after holding meeting with representatives of the private hospitals,” he said.

The health minister came up with the statement while speaking at a meeting on involvement of private sector in country’s healthcare service, at his secretariat office in the capital on Sunday.

“It is true that the private medical service sector is making contribution in healthcare service alongside the public sector, but people are suffering due to different charges of different hospitals,” he added.

Mentioning that people’s out of pocket expenditure is high in taking treatment but the government is giving the free service. About taking treatment abroad, the minister said healthcare service at private hospitals and buying medicine is among the main reasons behind the high cost of medical treatment.
