Prices of vegetables, fish continue to fall

Prices of vegetables, onion and fishes continued to decline due to an increased supply in the city markets while prices of oil have increased. Prices of rice and other commodities remain unchanged.

While visiting several kitchen markets in the capital on Friday, this correspondent found that the prices of vegetables decreased by around Tk 10 per kilogramme.

In Joar Shahara Kachabazar, price of bean decreased by Tk 5 and was selling at Tk 30 per kg while yardlong bean was selling at Tk 35 per kg, potato at Tk 15, green chilli at Tk 80 to 90 per kg, cucumber at Tk 30 to 35 per kg, brinjal at Tk 30 to 40 per kg, tomato at Tk 40 to 50 per kg, lady’s finger at Tk 35, teasel gourd at Tk 45 to 50, carrot at Tk 50, bitter gourd at Tk 80, green papaya at Tk 25, pumpkin at Tk 50 per kg, and bottle gourd at Tk 25 to 35 and ash gourd at Tk 25 to 30 and cauliflower at Tk 20 to 25 and cabbage Tk 20 to 30 per piece.

Seasonal pointed gourds, ridge gourds and snake gourds were selling at Tk 30 to 50 per kg. Lemon was selling at Tk 5 to Tk 10 per piece.

A bunch of leafy vegetables of different species was selling at Tk 10 to 20 in the city.

The prices of fresh water fishes decreased by Tk 30 to 50 per kg this week.

In Dhaka’s New Market Kachabazar, catfish like indigenous shing and magur      

were selling at Tk 400 to 500 per kg, koi at Tk 400 to 550, tengra at Tk 350 to 400, shoul at Tk 450 to 600, Pabda at 300 to 450 and Gulsha at Tk 450 to 600.

Of other fishes, rui was selling at Tk 200 to 350, boal at Tk 400 to 550, shrimp at Tk 300 to 400, puti at Tk 250 to 400 per kg, kachki at Tk 300 to 350, rupchanda at Tk 650 to 800 per kg, batashi at Tk 450 to 600, aire fish at Tk 500 to 700, baila at Tk 450 to 550 per kg, and telapia at Tk 120 to Tk 180 per kg.

Price of oil decreased a bit compared to the last week. According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) website, the soybean oil was selling at Tk 130 to 135 a litre though it was Tk 130 to 145 in the last week.

The price of 5-litre soybean oil bottle was Tk 580 to 620 while it was Tk 580 to 640 in the last week, the TCB website said.

The crude oil per litre was selling at Tk 115 to 116 while it was sold Tk 116 to 120 last week.

The price of local onion has increased compared to the last week. The local onion was selling at Tk 35 per kg while imported onion at Tk 30 per Kg.

Price of fine rice has increased further. Per kg minicate rice was selling at Tk 65 to 66, while the price of per kg paijam/lata was Tk 54 to 58, najirshail was Tk 66 to 68 per kg, and chinigura rice was selling at Tk 90 to 100.

Price of BR-28 rice was Tk 52 to 55 per kg on the day while coarse rice price was at Tk 46 to 50 per kg.

The white broiler chicken and Sonali chicken have increased Tk 10 to 20 and Tk 50 per kg respectively. White broiler chicken was selling at Tk 140 to Tk 150 per kg while the price of Sonali cock was Tk 280 to 290 per piece and local (deshi) chicken weighing 800 gm to 900 gm was selling at Tk 550 to 600 per piece.

Beef was selling at Tk 550-Tk680 per kg and mutton (goat) at Tk 700 to 850 per kg.
