1.81 lakh more vaccinated

The number of Covid-19 vaccine recipients has been increasing day by day across the country including in Dhaka as over 1.81 lakh more people received the vaccine on Thursday.

According to data of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 1,81,439 more people received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine across the country on Thursday.

Of the total vaccine recipients, 1,12,489 were males and 68,950 females, it said adding only 27 reported side effects.

With this, a total of 28,50,940 people so far have received the first dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine in the country.

Of the vaccine recipients, 18,56,265 were female and 9,94,675 were female. A total of 696 vaccine recipients have so far reported side effects, the DGHS said.

The DGHS said 8,45,003 people received vaccine in Dhaka division including 3,93,398 in the capital, 1,26,617 in Mymensingh, 6,31,094 in Chattogram, 3,17,978 in Rajshahi, 2,63,463 in Rangpur, 3,48,477 in Khulna, 1,37,056 in Barishal and 1,81,252 in Sylhet division.

A total of 40,57,905 people registered online to receive the Covid-19 vaccine till 5:30pm on the day.

Some 31,160 people were vaccinated on February 7 when the nationwide vaccination began.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the vaccination programme virtually on January 27 when 26 frontline fighters received Covishield vaccine in Kurmitola General Hospital. Some 541 more received the vaccine in five hospitals in Dhaka the following day.  

The age limit for registration for vaccination is now 40 years and it will continue for the time being while earlier the age limit was raised to 55 years.

The front line fighters including health care providers of the country and general people aged 40 and above can also register online for the vaccine.

The government has taken decision to start giving the second dose of the vaccine from April 7.
