Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will observe Martyrs’ Day today in memory of the martyrs of the barbaric massacre that took place at the then BDR (now BGB) headquarters, Pilkhana on February 25-26 in 2009.
Marking the day, the BGB will organise Quran khwani, doa and milad mahfil at all regions, sectors, institutions and units including the Pilkhana headquarters, said a BGB press release.Under the management of Bangladesh Army, the representatives of the president and the prime minister, the home minister, chiefs of three armed forces (collectively),
public security secretary of the home ministry and the BGB director general will place floral wreaths at the Banani military graveyard around 9:00am today.
All BGB members will wear black badges and BGB flag will be hoisted half-mast at the places where BGB regimental flag is hoisted.
Special prayers and milad mahfils will be held at Pilkhana BGB Central mosque, Dhaka Sector mosque and Border Guard Hospital mosque after Jumma prayers tomorrow, seeking salvation of the departed souls of the Pilkhana tragedy martyrs.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan will be present in the milad mahfil of Pilkhana BGB Central mosque as the chief guest.
Besides this, the senior secretary of the Public Security Division under Ministry of Home Affairs, the BGB director general, invited guests from the Ministry of Home Affairs, relatives of the martyrs, all officers, junior officers, soldiers of other ranks and civil officials working of the BGB headquarters will attend the special prayers and milad mahfils by maintaining social distance and hygiene rules.On February 25-26, 2009, a group of relegated members of the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) killed 74 people, including 57 army officers, at the Pilkhana headquarters of the paramilitary force.
