5.7m farmers receive Tk 3.7bn incentives

The government has provided a financial incentive of Tk 3.72 billion to 5.7 million pandemic-stricken farmers in agriculture sector.

The incentive is distributed from the regular budget of the Ministry of Agriculture for the allocation of agricultural rehabilitation assistance sector in the current fiscal year 2020-21.

The total amount of land under the incentive programme is 2.364 bighas, said a press release. Of the total distributed amount, Tk 1.12 billion was distributed among pandemic-stricken farmers and Tk 900 million have been given to increase the production of masakalai, mug, sunflower, mustard, maize etc. during the Rabi season. In addition, some Tk 1.36 billion has been distributed for free 

seed support to increase the planting and production of boro paddy, Tk 250 million for increasing onion production and Tk 9 million for hybrid boro paddy cultivation in 61 districts.

The incentive has been provided to cope up the pandemic, to compensate for the damage caused by floods and to increase production.
