KHULNA: Different government, semi-government, autonomous bodies, socio-cultural organisations, political parties and educational institutions have completed all preparations to observe the “Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day-2021” on February 21 (Sunday).
As per government directives, at least five people from different organisations will be allowed to go to the Shaheed Minar premises in memory of the Language Heroes and at least two persons could place wreaths on it, said Mohammad Helal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Khulna.According to officials, the district and upazila administrations and other organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
The decision was made at a preparatory meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner office recently with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain in the chair.
In Khulna city, the observance will begin at one minute past after midnight on February 20 when State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnuzan Sufian will place wreaths at Shaheed Minar of City’s Shaheed Hadis Park to pay due respect to the Language Movement Martyrs.
Later, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Muktijoddha Sangshad, Khulna Divisional Commissioner, Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner (KMP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police of Khulna Range Police will place wreaths there.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain along with officials of the district and upazila administrations will also place floral wreaths there to be followed by the other government and non-government departments and organisations abiding health guidelines.
Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organisations and other political parties, Social, Cultural and professional organisations and common people will also place wreaths there to pay homage to the Language Movement Martyrs.Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna University (KU), Khulna City Corporation (KCC), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), will also place wreaths at the Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the Language Heroes.
The other programmes of the day include hoisting of national flag at half-mast atop of all buildings, educational institutions, decoration of the streets with miniature national and coloured flags inscribed with Bengali alphabets.
Besides, competitions for the children on drawing, essay writing, rendering patriotic songs and sports competitions for the school students will be arranged virtually.
