Efforts underway to boost business activities: BIDA

CHATTOGRAM: Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam on Wednesday said that efforts are going on to boost business activities for achieving better position in the index of Ease of Doing Business.

He said these while addressing as the chief guest at a consultation workshop on Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) organised by the BIDA at Bangabandhu Conference Hall of the World Trade Centre (WTC) in the city’s Agrabad area.

The BIDA Chairman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina set a target to achieve a double digit ranking in the index of the EoDB from the current position by this year.  "Our objective is to inform all the stakeholders 

about the initiatives taken by the government for easing the doing business at this workshop,” he said.

Different committees headed by the finance minister and the cabinet secretary are working to develop the skills in private sector business activities, Sirazul added.

Details discussion on starting a business, dealing with construction permit, registering property, getting electricity, getting credit, trading across border and protecting minority investor were held at the workshop.

BIDA Executive Member-5 Md Billal Hossain presided over the workshop while the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam was present as the special guest. Chattogram Customs House Commissioner M Fakhrul Alam and Chittagong Port Authority Member (Admin and Planning) Md Zafar Alam were also present at the programme among others. Businessmen and representatives from different government agencies including Wasa, Power Development Board and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited participated in the workshop.
