Farmers to keep getting supports from govt

Says agriculture minister

Agriculture Minister Dr. Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said the government would continue providing all necessary assistance to farmers including those in fisheries and livestock sectors.

He said this at an incentive distributing programme to the pandemic-hit farmers at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Describing the government’s initiatives for the farmers, the agriculture minister said, “the present government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina is taking timely steps and implementing them, putting emphasis on the agriculture sector.”

 “Bangladesh has become self-sufficient in granular food overcoming all the challenges thanks to the steps” he mentioned as an example.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim presided over the event while Planing Miminster Abdul Mannan attended as the special guest.  President of Standing Committee on Ministry of               

Fisheries and Livestock Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu and World Bank Country Director in Bangladesh Mercy Miyang Tembon, among others, also spoke.

Fisheries and Livestock Ministry has provided Tk 568.86 crore in assistance to 4, 85,476 farmers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 4, 07,402 livestock farmers and 78,074 farmers from fisheries sector have received incentive through bKash, Nagad and bank accounts.

Abdur Razzaque said the fisheries and livestock sectors have been playing a vital role in meeting nutrition demand and mitigating poverty of the country’s marginal people living in rural areas.

“Ensuring nutrition and safe foods for the country’s people is the goal of the government. The government is, therefore, providing all possible assistance to increase the production of fish, milk, eggs, meat, fruits and other nutritious foods in the country,” he said.
