Move to Revoke Zia’s ‘Bir Uttam’ Title

BNP stages demo across country

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Wednesday staged demonstrations at different parts of the country including in Dhaka on Wednesday protesting against the move to revoke the ‘Bir Uttam’ gallantry title of its founder Ziaur Rahman.

The party leaders and activists staged protest rallies in different districts and metropolitan cities in the country in protest against the move.

As part of the nationwide scheduled programme, BNP leaders and activists staged their demonstration in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.

Dhaka south city unit president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel presided over the meeting while the party central leaders spoke at the demonstration.

The programme was started at 10am that continued till noon. Centering the demonstration programme, the law enforcing agencies remained alert while additional police were deployed in the area.

The prgorgramme also caused serious traffic congestion in Purana Paltan, Jatiya Press Club, Kakrail, MatsyaBhaban and Shahbag areas resulting to immense sufferings of people.

Speaking at the protest rally, BNP leaders called people to join their movement to oust the government.

At the programme, BNP chairperson’s adviser Amanullah Aman said “We won’t give this government any chance of holding election. All have to join one-point movement through taking to street to establish people’s voting right. People have to get united to ensure fall of this government.”

He also warned that the government has to face dire consequence if it moves to revoke Zia’s title.

BNP chairperson’s another adviser Abdus Salam said none has power to revoke the title of Ziaur Rahman.

The party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal also spoke at the programme among others.
